Our mission is to become become Austin’s “go to” source for gluten free. We are up for the challenge and we have some exciting ways to meet that goal:

·    In September Bona Dea Baking Company Mixes will begin to appear in Austin and San Antonio Whole Foods Market.  We have hopes then to expand through the southwest region in 2011

·    A shipping option will be added to our online shop allowing for shipment of some baked goods and our package mixes

·    A gluten free subscription box will be made available to include mix and match options for your gluten free panty

·    We will continue to work toward sourcing our grains and flours locally with an eye on someday grinding our own flours

It has been quite a year and a living lesson to being open to what we are meant to be putting our energies towards.  We look with great anticipation toward our 2nd year in business and think it might be even more exciting than the first!

See that happy family?  I am working to keep all of us happy and healthy by baking only gluten free!

In the fall of 2009 Bona Dea Bread began taking shape with our first commercial lease and an email list of 30 customers.  Our goal was to create artisan wholegrain bread and baked goods that were nutritious and delicious.  We received a warm welcome in the four central Austin neighborhoods we served and expanded to eleven.  With the increase in business it was time for a kitchen more of our own.  We were welcomed into Congregation Beth Israel and licensed their commercial kitchen for our use in January 2010.

Along the way we received lovely and impassioned letters requesting we begin taking what we knew about wholesome baking and produce gluten free products of the same quality.  I was a hard sell but a few things pushed me; the limited amount of gluten free products available that were nutritionally sound and tasted good, my gluten free friends, my naturopath and my own journey toward foods which heal.  All of those reasons combined got me started but the sheer energy created with a whole new challenge was certainly what propelled our business into setting some new goals.
